MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />Apri12, 2009 <br />NORTH/SOUTH TRAIL CONNECTION <br />Morelan reported the he and Bill Sanders met with Holly Larson, National Park Service, on <br />April 1. Morelan stated they were looking to name the Little Canada's portion of the trail. <br />They are looking for an overall health concept, so looking to have amedical/health theme to <br />the trail. Another suggestion would be to have a regional name given to this portion of the <br />trail. <br />Morelan commented they will be scheduling several other meetings with Holly and <br />representatives from Ramsey County, Roseville Area School District, the Active Living <br />Group, City of Maplewood, St. Paul Water Utilities, Waldorf School and St. Jude's Medical. <br />GRANT STATUS <br />Chair Fahey asked Sanders if we have applied for any grants. Sanders stated he will apply for <br />them once all plans are done for the trail connection. He predicted that would be a year or <br />two from now. <br />OTHER: <br />Morelan distributed two fliers, one for the upcoming Market Place Morning Talks for April 8 <br />and one for a new adult Cajun and Zydeco Dance workout program, Zyderobics. The <br />upcoming Morning Talk is entitled Healthy Cooking presented by Cerenity Senior Care with <br />recipes and food samples being distributed . <br />Fahey inquired if these Morning Talks have been well attended. Morelan said there are <br />usually twelve to twenty-four people. The program flier for each session is published about <br />two months prior to the meeting. Fahey commented that there is no smoking in the building <br />now so attendance should be better. <br />Morelan stated the Zydeco Dance program is new and will require approximately eight <br />members registered to meet the program costs. It will be held for one hour every Thursday <br />evening from Apri19 to May 14 at the Old Fire Hall from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. <br />Morelan said last year on Earth Day Steve Bachmann and Joanne Pfiefer went out and picked <br />up the trash in Gervais Park. They plan to do it again this year on April 18, or May 2 if the <br />weather is inclement on the 18th. The city provides the bags and disposes of the trash. <br />Morelan commented that he had been contacted by a Cub Scout Group who wants to do an <br />environmental project for the city. Morelan proposed cleaning the grates at Gervais Park as a <br />project and they will reply back to him. These boys are about 8 years old and most of the <br />Page 4 of 5 <br />
