rt 1 NU'P.ES
Parks & Recreation Commission
Nr..bruary 3, 1994
not work due to the leagues and day light hours. Wehrle
stated that the Council also has a problem because they see
the park as a local one. However, there has been alot of
non-resident use so the Council does not want to spend
$70,000 for their use.
Hartmann stated that he plays softball and has parked on the
Desoto Street side once or twice a week, and he has never
had a problem parking on the Desoto Street side. He said
that he has hardly ever seen that lot full. He felt that
the coaches of the Little Canada teams could have their
players and parents park on the Desoto Street side.
Wehrle asked the Commission if there were any other items
they would like to add to the priority list. Sanders
recommended putting in some money for landscaping in Gervais
Mill. He felt that it would become a priority as soon as
the park is finished this summer. Johnson agreed stating
that it is highly visible on Edgerton Street. Remerowski
asked how much landscaping was needed in the park. Sanders
stated that the landscaping could be done year by year
possibly $5,000 each year over five years. Remerowski felt
that by doing it year by year, it could get torn up. He
would be more inclined to doing the landscaping all at
once. Wehrle agreed, but stated that there is also some
benefit to staggered plantings.
Wehrle informed the new members that every once in a while,
the City will submit grant applications and those
applications sometimes require matching funds which could
cause the Commission to reprioritize their funds. Sanders
stated that most of the tree planting grant programs are
matching programs and most of them have a $5,000 limit to
the amount of the grant. Therefore, that figure would be a
nice one to have for Gervais Mill landscaping.
Wehrle asked where the Pioneer Park parking should be
prioritized. He felt that prioritizing it is hard due to
the lack of decisions on the issue. Remerowski felt that a
resolution to the parking problem could be a process of
educating the park users. Holm thought that a problem would
still exist on the Centerville Road side since it fills up
first. Hartmann agreed. Remerowski asked if signage was
present to address the parking problem. Wehrle felt that
there was no signage present.
-10-
