MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
February 3, 1994
Wehrle stated that no matter how much parking is added,
certain types of events will require more parking. Hartmann
felt that the temporary parking on Desoto should be
blacktopped and if there are major tournaments, the City
could allow on-street parking. He felt that the neighbors
would not have a problem with on-street parking as long as
it was not every night.
Remerowski stated that possibly someone from maintenance or
an off-duty police officer could close off the Centerville
Road lot when it is full and flag the people to the Desoto
Street lot. He felt that it seemed logical to spend a few
dollars to educate the people before spending $70,000 on a
new parking lot.
Holm stated that the parking situation on Centerville Road
is dangerous and he did not feel it should be delayed to
1996. Remerowski felt that temporary parking could be added
on the Centerville Road side too at a minimal cost.
Wehrle stated that the following should be tried over the
next couple of years to determine if additional parking is
warranted for Pioneer Park:
1) Educate park users with signage and flyers.
2) Increase temporary parking on Centerville Road and
Desoto Street.
3) Have Little Canada coaches tell parents of Little
Canada teams to park on the Desoto Street side and
let opposing team park on the Centerville Road
side.
4) Possible reduction in programming at the park.
5) Possibly having the police issue tickets on the
Centerville Road side to park users who are not
parking appropriately.
6) Possibly have someone from maintenance or an
off-duty police officer close off the Centerville
Road lot when full and flag the people to the
Desoto Street lot.
7) Possible on-street parking on the Desoto Street
side during tournaments.
Wehrle asked where the $70,000 for parking on the
Centerville Road side should be placed in light of the
alternatives that will be tried. Johnson felt that Gervais
Mill landscaping is not even in that plan and it is a big
park. She felt that it should be shown in 1996. Remerowski
stated that if there was money left over from the
-11-
