MINUTES
Yanks ~ Recreation Commission
February 3, 1994
Street by LaBore Avenue. Sanders stated that it is zoned
high density residential. However, when that land is
developed, the Commission could ask for land to build a tot
lot. Wehrle and Sanders felt that would be a better site
for a tot lot.
Wehrle felt that discussion on this issue should be
continued at the next meeting. He felt that Commission
members should decide what recreational uses are needed in
the area and they should check the plat map for potential
park land sites.
CnYITAL Wehrle stated that the City Council met on January 12, 1994
7MPRO~1EFff?NT to review the priorities for capital improvements and they
PH:I:ORITIES reviewed the Commission's recommendations. He indicated
that they did not have any problems with the Commission's
ranking for 1994. However, there was some discussion on
future years and on the Pioneer Park parking issue. Wehrle
stated that the City Council met again on January 26, 1994
and did not discuss park issues anymore other than they
stated they would like another recommendation from the
Commission concerning future years for capital improvements.
Wehrle stated that it is hard for some Council Members to
justify the $70,000 expenditure for added parking at Pioneer
Park based on other priorities that they have seen the
Commission come up with and other priorities which the
residents of Little Canada may have. Wehrle agreed that
someday additional parking will be needed at Pioneer Park
and he did not have a problem with leaving the priority
where it was since it will come up for discussion again.
However, he would like to see some alternatives tried to
determine more accurately how much parking is needed and
also to determine if there are some options that can
alleviate the parking problem.
Wehrle stated that it is obvious that for certain types of
uses, there is not enough parking at Pioneer. However, he
has seen a lot of other priorities in the park system and
has a hard time spending the $70,000 for added parking too.
Therefore, he would like to try temporary parking for the
next couple of years. Wehrle stated that the Council
Members are split on the parking issue. Wehrle felt that
the City should determine how much parking is needed there,
what type of police actions would help on the Centerville
Road side, and a possible reduction of programming at
Pioneer Park. Wehrle stated that the Director has already
stated that staggered starting times for ball games would
-9-
