rs ~ rr~cEs
barks & Recreation Commission
February 3, 1994
Remerowski asked where the Pioneer Park parking should be
moved to. Sanders felt that something should be budgeted to
address the parking issue since parking on the grass cannot
be used forever. He thought that the $70,000 for
Centerville Road parking expansion could be moved to
unallocated and the $25,000 for Desoto Street parking
expansion could be moved forward.
Hartmann felt the City should try the alternatives for
parking, see what happens, and then blacktop what is
needed. Johnson felt that $70,000 was alot to spend for
softball play. Remerowski felt that the non-residents
using the park is common to all parks. However, they should
be charged for their usage of the park. Remerowski felt
that our rates should not be lower than any of the other
cities. Hartmann felt non-resident teams should be charged
for practicing in and reserving the park. Hartmann stated
that the $70,000 cost may be alot, but if it is needed, it
should be done because it will not get less expensive.
However, he did agree with studying it for another year.
Remerowski felt that much more studying on this issue is
needed.
Remerowski felt that permanent parking on Desoto Street and
temporary parking on Centerville Road should be allocated in
1996 possibly a $40,000 figure. He felt this could be
adjusted if other needs arise or if it is determined
unwarranted. The Commission members agreed.
Remerowski commented that he has seen cars parked in the
Pioneer Park lot during the winter possibly using
Rideshare. He asked if there was an option of using that
lot as a Rideshare to pick up extra dollars from Ramsey
County or the State. Sanders stated that the lot would not
be directly on the route since the bus travels on LaBore
Road. Wehrle was not sure if it was feasible, but felt it
was worth looking into.
Remerowski felt that the building currently in Pioneer Park
could be used as a picnic shelter temporarily. He thought
that a couple of grills could be installed. Johnson felt
that the Pioneer picnic shelter should stay in 1997.
Remerowski agreed.
Wehrle stated that he would like to add Gervais Mill parking
and Gervais Mill shelter under unallocated to make the
Council aware that they are items that are planned for in
the future. The Westwind tot lot, Jackson Street tot lot,
and trail development under the power lines should also be
-14-
