MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MARCH 3, 1994
With reference to the proposed Lake Street improvement
project, Magnuson did not feel it was necessary to have a
detached sidewalk along Lake Street to Nadeau Park.
Sanders agreed, and felt it would be adequate to stripe
the street to designate a trail.
The Administrative Assistant informed the Commission that
a 28 foot street width is being proposed for Lake Street.
Sanders felt that given that width perhaps a separate
sidewalk should be considered.
The Director suggested that on-street parking can become
a problem when there is a striped trail on the street.
In those instances, it may be necessary to prohibit on-
street parking to keep the trail area clear.
Wehrle stated that he would be in favor of a sidewalk
along Lake Street to connect the park. A compromise
would be a designated trail area striped on the street.
Wehrle felt it made sense to provide connections to the
City's park facilities.
Remerowski asked if a sidewalk along Jackson Street had
been considered.
Wehrle replied that the Commission has discussed a
sidewalk along the west side of Jackson Street. Wehrle
recommended that a sidewalk be improved on the south side
of Lake Street to Nadeau Park as part of the Lake Street
road improvement.
Greger asked if he could look at the area and call in his
vote the next day. This was agreeable to the Commission.
Magnuson reported that her observation is that there is
not a lot of driving traffic to Nadeau Park, but rather
pedestrian and biking traffic.
Remerowski felt that the Commission's recommendation
should be based on how it feels access to the park can be
best addressed.
Greger suggested that a wider street with a striped path
on the south side would be preferable to an off-street
sidewalk.
10
