MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MARCH 3, 1994
The Director reported that residents typically request
that trails be at least blacktopped for easier access for
people pushing strollers.
Greger felt that too much blacktop would cheapen the
community and preferred a more natural setting for the
adjacent residents and people using the area.
Wehrle felt that without blacktop, the trail is limited
to single-season use.
The Director pointed out that the City does plow some of
its trails for winter use.
Greger stated that he could support blacktop trails in a
park, but not a residential area.
Magnuson stated that she disagreed with Greger and would
prefer a trail on unimproved Jackson street to be
blacktopped for easier use.
Sanders pointed out the number of multi-family housing
units in the Viking Drive area west of the freeway and
felt that some circulation path should be provided for
them.
Johnson agreed. Johnson also suggested the pedestrian
plan include a connection along Arcade Street between
Keller Parkway and LaBore Road.
The Commission agreed that this connection should be
added to the plan. It was noted that any on-street trail
would involve the restriping of the street to designate
the trail area from driving lanes.
Wehrle asked the status of the Keller Parkway
improvement.
The Director reported that the latest information from
the County is that improvement of Keller Parkway has been
delayed until 1995 or 1996.
1994 STREET The Commission was informed that the City is proposing
IMPROVEMENTS to improve Lake Street, Westwind and Windrow Drives, and
Lakeshore Avenue/Old County Road C/Jackson Street during
1994. The Council has asked for input as to the need for
sidewalk or trail improvements along these roadways.
9
