MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MARCH 3, 1994
pedestrian plan has been addressed and there are a lot of
details to be worked out as yet. No policy has been
formalized for funding of these types of improvements.
Johnson asked about the possibility of a pedestrian
bridge over the freeway.
The Director reported that this topic has been discussed
periodically in the past.
Greger questioned the need for a sidewalk improvement
along Australian pointing out that it is a dead-end
street.
The Director pointed out that the plan would be to
connect this sidewalk to a trail on unimproved Jackson
Street which would extend further south along improved
Jackson Street and over to Nadeau Wildlife Park and the
middle school.
Greger again stated that he did not see the need for a
sidewalk improvement on Australian or Bluwood, pointing
out that both are dead-end streets and are not heavily
traveled.
The Director felt a sidewalk may not be necessary if
these streets were wider. The Director also pointed out
that sidewalk improvements would probably not be
addressed by the City until the streets themselves were
reconstructed. The Director pointed out that the right-
of-way for Bluwood is 100 feet wide and there is plenty
of room for a sidewalk. The Director was not sure what
the right-of-way was for Australian. The Director
indicated that as part of the proposed pedestrian plan,
staff indicated off-street sidewalk wherever there would
not be a problem with the adjacent properties if the
sidewalk were off-street.
Greger asked the what type of surface is being proposed
for the path on unimproved Jackson Street.
The Director replied that he would assume the trail would
be blacktop at a minimum.
Greger reported that he would prefer the trail be dirt or
wood chips. Greger stated that he saw no reason to
develop the area.
8
