MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 2, 1994
Remerowski asked if County Road E would impact the site.
Pardee felt there would be no impact since there are many
stops and most people would take the freeway.
Pratt assured the Commission that they do not want to
disturb any natural berm in the area.
Wehrle recommended standing on the original recommendation
of cash in lieu of land for the park dedication relative to
the Twin Lake Pines' development. However, he would want to
review the development agreement pertaining to the use of
Outlot "A" within Little Canada. Wehrle stated that
originally the Commission had been looking at relocating
trees that would be removed due to the development, but the
trees in the area are fairly mature.
Sanders asked if the by-laws will address the trees along
the lakeshore. Pratt stated that they would address those
trees and he wants to leave the vegetation alone as much as
possible without restricting the homeowners too much.
Pratt stated that the outlot in Little Canada will be a
quiet park for the homeowners with by-laws and a homeowners'
association to control its use.
TRAILS & Wehrle stated that he views sidewalks as not necessarily
SIDEWALKS recreational entities, but more of a service entity for the
residents. Trails are more recreational. Sanders agreed
especially in the Lakeshore/Old Co. Rd. C situation since
much of the pedestrian traffic would be going to the
convenience store.
Remerowski felt that the question of the need for sidewalks
on heavily-traveled streets through residential areas should
be included in the community survey. He felt that the
residents should decide. Wehrle stated that he would rather
see the survey address trails in relationship to our Master
Plan of the parks.
Sanders felt that a trail is needed on the west side of
Jackson Street with a connection to Australian to get the
kids to school and the playground. Wehrle agreed.
Wehrle asked Sanders for a recommendation on the type of
trail for the Jackson Street area. Sanders felt an eight
foot bituminous trail would be best. Wehrle stated that the
Public Works Superintendent has stated that bituminous
trails are harder to maintain and also it may have to be
shoveled in the winter time. Wehrle felt that those
questions would stem from demand once the trail was in
place. Wehrle felt that concrete is cost prohibitive for
Little Canada.
-4-
