MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
August 4, 1994
situation would change.
Mrs. Nordstrom stated that she was also not in favor of the
trail under the NSP power lines.
Wehrle thanked the property owners for their attendance at
the meeting, and re-emphasized that if their conditions
change, they should let the Commission know. Mr. Durand
stated that next time the Commission has a situation similar
to tonight's, they should let all the affected residents
know about the meeting, not just the property owners that
easements are needed from.
RECESS At 9:00 p.m., the Commission took a ten minute recess.
JACKSON 5T Wehrle stated that the City Administrator indicated that
TRAIL based on the bids received for the Lakeshore/Old Co. Rd.
C/Jackson Street construction, the Council has decided to
re-bid the projects in the spring of 1995.
Wehrle indicated that the City has received two petitions
from the residents in the area pertaining to the trail
issue. The first petition is in favor of a trail
improvement from Old Co. Rd. C to Australian, but does not
want any public sidewalks. The second petition wants the
Council to reverse its decision to put a trail in from
Demont Avenue to Australian. Wehrle stated that since the
Council has decided to wait until spring to begin the
project, they have given the matter back to the Commission
for their re-consideration in light of the petitions
received.
Ms. Ann Judd from 95 Old Co. Rd. C stated that when she
first received notice from the City on the issue, she
thought she had to choose between either sidewalks or
trails. She indicated that residents in the area were
definitely against sidewalks. She indicated that she was
attending the meeting to be updated on the matter.
Bill Bruce from 2604 Jackson Street stated that he saw both
petitions, but did not sign either of them. However, he
felt there were good and bad points in each petition that he
wanted to comment on. He stated that he was concerned with
the width of the street proposed. He felt that the
increased width will increase the speed of traffic. He also
felt that the curb will make it harder for children to
escape on to the lawn when a vehicle comes. He indicated
that there are high volumes of traffic on Jackson, and the
new stop sign has helped hold speeds down.
Bruce indicated that he does not favor an 8' trail since it
will look like a road next to a road. He is also concerned
-8-
