Minutes <br />Parks & Recreation <br />September 5, 1996 <br />Remerowski suggested the City pursue the acquisition of tY. <br />McNamara property for park purposes. He pointed out that <br />once the land is acquired, we have the choice to develop it <br />right away or to wait. To have the McNamara Park <br />Development Fund as a wish list item would allow completion <br />of the park when needed. Johnson asked if this would be one <br />acre of land. Sanders replied it would be. Remerowski <br />stated it would be a good idea to put everything together <br />now for obtaining the land. Holm agreed. <br />Remerowski made a motion to ask the City Council to acquire <br />the McNamara property through the 10% park dedication fee. <br />Holm seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried 7 - 0. <br />After debate and voting, the commission determined the <br />following to be their wish list for 1997: <br />1 - Pioneer Park Volleyball Court $5,000 <br />2 - Gervais Mill Site Amenities $5,000 <br />3 - Pioneer Park Parking Lot Improvement/Expansion $40,000 <br />4 - Gervais Mill Amenities $5,000 <br />5 - Little Canada School Backstops $20,000 <br />6 - Gervais Mill Gravel Parking Improvement $3,000 <br />7 - Little Canada School Fencing $40,000 <br />8 - Footbridge Between Waterworks & Spooner Park <br />9 - Nadeau Park Observation Area $5,000 <br />9 - Rushes of Gervais Boardwalk <br />10- Miscellaneous Trail Improvements <br />10- Pioneer Park Soccer Field Lights $45,000 <br />11- Thunder Bay Park Backstop $1,500 <br />11- McNamara Park Development Fund <br />11- Gervais Mill Nature Center <br />il- Scoreboards <br />11- Additional Parking for Spooner Picnic Shelter <br />12- Pioneer Park Ball Field Lights $180,000 <br />12- Pioneer Park Skating Rink $3,000 <br />13- Pioneer Park Tot Lot $50,000 <br />13- Portable Band Shell <br />14- Gervais Mill Path $35,000 <br />SPOONER & Johnson commented that a plan for the new shelter was <br />PIONEER shared before the meeting. Johnson asked if the old <br />SHELTERS shelter was being moved this year. Morelan stated the area <br />where the old shelter will be placed is being planned for <br />excavation now, and it will be moved as soon as possible. <br />Morelan stated his goal is to see that the new shelter will <br />be under construction this year, and be ready for usage next <br />spring. <br />Sanders stated the new shelter has a green metal roof, a <br />limestone fireplace and edging, and an enclosed portion <br />6 <br />
