MINUTES <br />PARKS & REC COMMISSION <br />JANUARY 4, 2024 <br />2 <br />Commissioner DeLong Miller noted that Commissioner Schletty is also at the end of his last <br />term and therefore would not move into the position of Chair in the future. <br />Commissioner Schletty stated that he would be fine serving as Vice-Chair but would also be <br />happy to step aside and let Commissioner Churcher serve as Vice-Chair this year. <br />Commissioner Churcher stated that she has spoken with the Recreation Coordinator, expressing <br />interest in pursuing a similar career, and believes that this role would provide her with more <br />experience and information. <br />Chair Horwath recognized that Commissioner Schletty did a great job as Vice-Chair and would <br />be willing to support Commissioner Churcher this year. <br />Chair Horwath nominated Commissioner Churcher for the position of Vice-Chair for 2024. <br />The motion was unanimously approved. <br />OLD BUSINESS: PARK SYSTEM MASTER PLAN REPORTING UPDATE <br />The Parks & Rec Director stated that there was an in-depth discussion in December reviewing <br />the progress of the Park System Master Plan. He stated that since that time he had not made as <br />much progress to identify subcommittee opportunities. He stated that signage was discussed <br />with Commissioner Mui excited to lead that subcommittee. He asked if there was interest from <br />two other members to be a part of the park wayfinding signage subcommittee. He noted that <br />there will be additional subcommittee opportunities in the coming months. <br />Commissioners Williams and DeLong Miller volunteered to be a part of the park wayfinding <br />signage subcommittee with Commissioner Mui. <br />Commissioners Hipp and Churcher also expressed interest in assisting if needed. <br />Commissioner Hipp stated that perhaps she and Chair Horwath could provide input on <br />connections to parks as they are out running and walking on the trails and are in the parks often. <br />NEW BUSINESS: RECREATION COORDINATOR UPDATE <br />The Recreation Coordinator reviewed the winter registration that is available and noted the <br />upcoming spring registration date. She reviewed adult and youth programming opportunities <br />and community events. <br />REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS <br />Commissioner Churcher stated that even with the cold temps there are still kids out playing at the <br />new Pioneer Park playground.
