MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
DECEMBER 7, 2023

2
The Parks & Rec Director stated that the Master Plan was approved and adopted in 2018 and is
the guiding document for the parks projects and is also used in future planning. He stated that
the intent tonight is to review the progress that has been made and tracking of the items that are
in progress. He reviewed progress on the different items. He noted that if desired, they could
further discuss some of the items in progress at a future meeting or work session in an attempt to
move the needle forward.

Chair Horwath commented that perhaps they could tour the center Pioneer Park building again in
the spring/summer. He recognized that the building had most likely reached its limits and that
the item would have a larger cost.

Commissioner Schletty commented that staff is looking for prioritization of the items left on the
list and noted that some of that would depend upon the work that has already been done to make
progress. He stated that when they have the larger discussion it would be helpful to know how
much work is left on the items as that will help to prioritize.

Commissioner Hipp asked if the priority would be on the potential new community building
versus rehabbing the center building.

The Parks & Rec Director commented that if there is going to be a new community building,
perhaps the needs for the center building would be different than what they are today. He
commented that the upper level cannot be opened for public use as it is not handicap accessible,
does not have sewer and water throughout the building, and is not temperate controlled.

Commissioner Schletty recalled that the primary use for the upper level has been for
scorekeepers during softball tournaments. It was noted that the lower level is primarily used for
concessions and storage.

Commissioner Mui asked if there would be packets or documents to provide new residents with
the wayfinding information.

The Parks & Rec Director commented that would be a great addition, but the first step will be to
develop the signs and then something could be placed in the welcome packet.

Commissioner Hipp stated that information about trail connections between the parks is helpful
too.

The Parks & Rec Director stated that perhaps a wayfinding subcommittee would be helpful to
move that project forward if that is a priority of the Commission.

Commissioner Mui volunteered.

Commissioner DeLong Miller agreed that should be a priority.
