MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 5, 2024

2

trails map and park map, while the smaller parks would just include the parks and trails system
map.

Commissioner Delong Miller commented that the icons do not seem to serve a purpose as she
believed those would be included on the map and legend.

Commissioner Willams commented that she would have preferred to have details on the purpose
of the QR code and what information would be gained by following the QR code. She stated
that the opening paragraph seems to be a garbled group of words. She also believed grand
opening mentioned should have been called the ribbon cutting as the park originally was opened
many years before that. She also believed the Waterworks Trail should have been included in
the map and commented that the sign appears cluttered overall.

Commissioner Mui commented that the subcommittee began in January 4th with the purpose of
park logos and branding the parks and park system. He stated that as presented, that seems to be
an afterthought. He commented that a lot of time was spent developing the logos and they
appear as a secondary thought on the concepts.

Commissioner Schletty commented that the city and park map take up a lot of space on the sign
and therefore it seems questionable as to how helpful that information is. He agreed that perhaps
placing the icons on the map would be helpful in terms of wayfinding and also freeing up more
space for the logo. He agreed that the historical paragraph could have been cut down and that
perhaps the grand opening mentioned should be called a ribbon cutting. He stated the idea of
having both maps is helpful for a park user to find where they are and how to get to the other
parks, but perhaps that could be tightened up.

Commissioner Hipp commented that both maps are helpful and could perhaps be in the kiosk.

The Parks and Recreation Director stated that this project is overdue and therefore if another
review is desired for the Pioneer Park sign, that should be done with haste. He asked if the
subcommittee could meet and present a final draft for approval at the October meeting.

Commissioner Delong Miller confirmed that could be done. She explained that the Commission
was never informed of the timing for this process and did not see the proposed concept for
Pioneer until receiving the packet for this meeting.

Commissioner Schletty suggested that the updated concept be sent out to the Commission prior
to the meeting so that feedback and comments can be provided, and the final draft could be
presented at the meeting. He asked if this was the only concept designed.

The Parks and Recreation Director commented that this was the only concept as this sign needs
to be installed in order to receive the final grant fund payout. He stated that this next month
