MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 5, 2024

5

about $1,800 per year and would include 18 hours of support. He stated that if there is high
usage and additional hours are needed, there would be an option to add more hours.

Commissioner Mui asked if there would be an option for evaluation, using the scenario that not
many hours are used.

The Parks and Recreation Director confirmed that this would be a one-year contract and they
City would then determine whether it would like to contract for additional services.

REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner Owens commented that he enjoyed Canadian Days and time in the parks this
summer. He was excited for the new trail connection to be completed.

Commissioner Mui commented that he has also enjoyed time in the parks this summer. He was
excited to continue to provide feedback and support on the wayfinding signs to find something
they can all support.

Commissioner Williams stated that she has visited many different parks in attempt to avoid
Gervais Mill Pond because of its recent odor. She also commented on the new development that
is under construction in that area that she believed removed more trees than originally approved.

The Parks and Recreation Director commented that the City is investigating to determine if more
trees than approved were removed and to possible mitigation efforts that could be made by
planting additional items to separate the property and the trail.

Commissioner Hipp commented that it was a great summer wrapping up with Canadian Days.
She noted many groups having picnics recently under the shade trees at Pioneer Park.

Acting Chair Churcher commented that Nadeau has been looking thin and asked if the trees
removed were due to storm damage or whether additional trees were removed.

The Parks and Recreation Director replied that the City would not be removing healthy trees
from Nadeau, but perhaps there were ash or other invasive trees removed.

Acting Chair Churcher noted that with school back in session she continues to hear requests for
sidewalk along Demont.

The Parks and Recreation Director commented that he could look into that.

Commissioner Schletty commented that his family has also enjoyed the summer park events and
activities.
