PQINUTES
City Council
(Cont'd.)
January 9, 1980
Mayor Hanson informed C.ounci1 that the price of the bid was based
on the removal of one tree of each size indicated on the bidding form.
P4r. Norwath stated that the bid is up 100% from last year, however,
the price for the average tree removed in Little Canada is only up 50%.
Hor~wath estimates that there are as many trees to be removed in Little
Canada this year as there were last year.
Councilwoman Scalze cornmenteci that citizens should have the opportunity
to take the wood from the trees that are cut down if they wished.
Attorney Parks stated that the City has an ordinance that wood cannot
be hauled without being debarked.
Mr. Hartvath recommended to the Council that the bid be awarded to
Flaynes Tree Service. Mr. Norwath also stated that he would work
with the citizens and allow them to take the wood, if they wished.
Councilman Fahey commented that he did not want to see the City
incurring any additional charges later in the year because of
misestimates by the contractor. This situation came up in 1979.
Fahey recommended awarding the bid providing the Attorney reviews the
bid to check out if the City would be liable for any additional charges.
P1r. Baynes, owner of Baynes Tree Service, stated that there would be
no additional charges. Ilaynes also stated that he would allow people
to take the firewood, if anyone indicated that they wished to do so.
Per. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 80-1-26 - REFERRING TO THE CITY ATTORNEY
THE QID FOR 1980 TREE REMOVAL SUBP1ITTED BY HAYNES TREE
SERVICE FOR HIS APPROVAL, AND IF THE CITY ATTORNEY
APPROVES THE BIU, THE BID 4lILL 6E A~rJARDED TO HAYNES TREE
SERVICE PROVIDED THAT THE 6IDDER DOES NOT EXPOSE TFIE
CITY TO ANY ADDITIONAL OR SURPRISE CHARGES NOT INCLUDED
IN ThIE BID
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Plr. Hanson.
Ayes (R) Fahey, Hanson, DeBace, Scalze.
Nayes (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 6, Pages 12 and 13.
Mr. Norwath reported to the Council that the City has been reimbursed
90% for last year's tree planting instead of the ~}1% the City believed
they would be reimbursed. Norwath reported that the reimbursement for
1980 would be approximately nl%.
Page -13-
