Councilman
Fahey stated that 'in the City of iJorth St. Pa u1 'the. various inspections
are documented by a card being attached to the wall in a house and
all 'the inspectors can sign the card ~rlhen they make their various
inspections. Councilman Def3ace stated that this way the Building
Inspector can see that all the inspections are made, and when trey
are, he can issue 'the occupancy permit.
Mr. Squires reported 'to 'the Council that in 40% of the cases where
this type of documentation procedure is used, the card disappears.
Mr. Squires stated that in Ar<ien Hi11s the card is kept in the office,
and the office staff will document t'ne inspections as they are made
on the card,
This is the system that the City presently uses. Councilman Def3ace
stated that if this system is all right with the Euilding Inspector,
it should be O.IC. for everyone.
Councilman Nadeau brought up the concern that no one is checking that
developments are cfo~ing the landscaping that the City is requiring.
Mr. Squires reported that in Arden Hi11s the city hired a forester to
inspect the landscaping plans of certain developments and follow up
on them to see that they are done.
Councilwoman Scalze stated that at a prior meeting Council discussed
having 'the Tree Inspector do the landscaping inspections. There was
some question as to whether the Tree Inspector was willing to do this.
Councilman DeBace stated that perhaps the Planner could be doing this
type of inspection.
Councilman Nadeau commented that as the [3uildiny Inspector is driving
throug'n the City, he could be reporting to the Council an•y code
violations that he might happen to see. Councilman Def3ace asked the
building Inspector what type of fee he would charge to do some driviny-
around inspections and the paper avork it would involve.
Mr. Squires commented that the City of Arden Hills is currently paying
him $74.50 per hour plus 1& cents per mile for mileage to do this type
of inspecting.
Councilwoman Scalr_e stated that if the [3uilding Inspector did these
types of inspections, she would like to see some type of handwritten note
on what he might have noticed or looked for.
Page -3-
