MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
March 4, 1980

Old Little Mayor lianson reported that he met informally with Paul Borg of the
Canada School District regarding the sale price that the School Board has
School come up with for the Old Little Canada School building. Mr. Borg
Building stated that the price was based on an appraisal that the School Board
received on the property.
Mayor Hanson informed Mr. Borg that the City is interested in the
Olcl Little Canada School Building, but would like to get their own
appraisal of the property. Mr. Borg stated that he felt the City
should get their own appraisal.
Mayor Hanson stated that once the City receives its own appraisal,
the City can get together with the School board to see if a satisfactory
sale price can be agreed upon.
Mayor Hanson reported that the School Board is giving the City until
June 1 to come up with an appraisal.
The Attorney suggested that the City have a commercial appraiser do
the appraisal of the school building. Parks thought the appraisal
would cost about X500.00.
Councilwoman Scalze stated that Vince Dolan is a commercial appraiser,
and he felt the Old Little Canada School Building was only worth the
property it stood on.
Mayor lianson suggested that the City Attorney contact some commercial
appraisers and get cost estimates for the appraisal. Parks stated that
he would check with about three appraisers on their prices and report
back to the Council.
Councilman Fahey stated that if the City is going to have to pay $250,000
for the school building, the purchase of the building should go to a
referendum. Councilwoman Scalze suggested that the building be purchased
with a grant. The Attorney stated that purchasing the building with a
grant may be harder than passing the purchase on a referendum.
Councilman DeBace stated that there is more use for the school building
to the City five years from now than there is immediately.
Councilman Nadeau stated that if the purchase of the building goes on a
referendum, the organizations in Little Canada who want the building for
their own uses, will have 'to sell the citizens on purchasing the building.
Councilman Fahey stated that if the purchase goes to a referendum, he
feels the Council should take a position on 'the purchase, either for
it or against it.
Both Councilman Nadeau and Mayor Hanson stated that they felt the building
would be a wise investment for 'the City.
Page -6-
