MINUTES
ity C until
~Cont.g
April 9, 1980
Langeslay The City Clerk reported that the Peter Langeslay proposal of
Proposal construction of an industrial building to be located on County Roacl
[3 has been referred back to the Planner.
Auto Mr. Ed McCumber appeared before the Council requesting approval of
Repair an auto repair license for Mr. Larry Dahl so that Mr. Dahl could
License operate an auto alignment and frame straightening business in the
Messrs. Dahl building owned by Mr. McCumber at the intersection of County Road
and McCumber D and Edgerton.
Mayor Hanson reported that the Planning Commission has recommended
denial of this request. Mr. Peter Costa, Planning Commission member,
stated that the Planning Commission did not want an auto shop located
in this area. The McCumber property is zoned light industrial, but
it is surrounded by R-1 property.
The Planner sent a letter to the Council and the Planning Commission
regarding the McCumber property outlining some concerns the Planner
has regarding the property and recommending that the auto repair
license not be granted until these concerns are resolved. Mr. McCumber
informed the Council that he and Mr. Dahl were to receive a copy of
this letter, however, they did not. Therefore, Mr. McCumber was not
aware of the Planner's concerns until the Planning Commission meeting
when the subject of the auto repair license was discussed.
Mr. McCumber stated that construction on a fence for the property will
begin on May 15.
Councilman Fahey informed Mr. McCumber that when the Council approved
the plans for his building, the Council understood that the building
would be used for office and warehouse. Mr. McCumber stated that that
was his intent, however, he has not been able to rent the building to
suitable tenants for that purpose.
Mr. McCumber informed the Council that he submitted a landscape plan
for his building on November 7, 1979. It was not until the Planning
Commission meeting on April 3 that he was informed that the landscape
plan was not adequate. Mr. McCumber also informed the Council that
there would be no overnight parking at his building.
Mr. McCumber stated that he has two other possible renters for his
building, however, he feels Mr. Dahl's business would be a more
suitable tenant. Mr. Dahl would have enough room for inside parking
of 'the automobiles that he is working on, with very few needing to
be parked outside.
Councilman Fahey stated that he is not in favor of this proposal as
the building was approved as an office/warehouse facility. Fahey
further stated that he was not in favor of any industrial development
in that portion of the City where the McCumber building is located
due to the surrounding R-1 properties.
Page -8-
