MINUTES

City Counci l
September 24, 1980
Council had some discussion over the $5,000 the Park Commission has
requested be budgeted for the development of park design. Councilwoman
Scalze informed 'the Council that this $5,000 would be used for the
development of City parkland other than Spooner Park. It may be in
the form of picnic tables or benches. Scalze also stated that the
Park Commission is surveying City residents to determine how the
City should develop its park land.
Mrs. Scalze also stated that the monies the City is collecting in the
form of park land dedication fees the Park Commission would like to
use exclusively for the acquisition of additional park land.
Mayor Hanson asked how much additional development of Spooner Park
will be done. Mrs. Scalze stated that she believes the development
of Spooner Park is just about complete.
The Council approved the Parks & Parks Commission budget as presented.
The City Clerk stated that the budget for Senior Citizens would remain
as last year's budget at $2,126.00 for the year 1981. Council approved
this portion of the budget.
The City Clerk presented the Canadian Days portion of the budget at
$2,500.00 for the year 1981. This is an increase of $500.00 over the
1980 budget.
Mayor Hanson stated that he was not in favor of increasing the budget
for Canadian Days.
Councilman DeBace questioned why the Canadian Days budget for 7980
is over its $2,000.00 limit. Jim Morelan stated that he thought the
Canadian Days committee was under the impression that they had a
budget of $2,500 for 1980 and not $2,000.
Councilman Fahey questioned whether or not the City benefited from
Canadian Days. Fahey felt it might get to the point where Little
Canada residents won't be able to attend the Canadian Days celebration
because of the outside people who attend. Fahey also stated that he
thought the Canadian Days celebration was to become self-sufficient.
Mr. Fahey suggested that the Council decrease the Canadian Days budget
by $500 each year until they are no longer receiving monies from the City.
Fahey suggested that the Council budget $1,500.00 for Canadian Days for
1981.
Council approved the Canadian Days bu dget for 1981 at $1,500.00.
The Roads portion of the 1981 budget is estimated at $59,71.500.
Councilman Fahey questioned what the $5,000 budgeted under Capitol Outlay
would be used 'for. Roger Glanzer replied that these monies would be used
for equipment that might need to be rented or purchased and for the
repair of any roads that might break up.
The City Clerk commented that there is a mistake in the budget. The
budgeted amount for motor fuels should be $1,500 instead of $1,000.
Therefore, the total budget should be increased by $500.
Page -3-
