MINUTES
City Council
September 24, 1980
Councilman Fahey questioned if the City was budgeting enough money
under the sealcoating portion of the budget to adequately maintain
the City's roads. Councilman DeBace felt that the $12,000 budgeted
under this portion of the budget was adequate.
Mayor Hanson informed the Council that they have a hearing coming
up on the improvement of County Road B-2 by storm sewer and watermain.
Hanson asked if it were possible to switch the state aid designation
that is presently on Noel Drive to County Road B-2.
Councilman DeBace stated that the County may be using County Road B-2
as a state aid road and if they are, they will not want to give this
up.
The City Clerk stated that County Road B-2 does not show up as a state
aid road for the County.
Councilman DeBace stated that the City could then apply for state aid
on County Road B-2. The City might not, however get full benefit
on this road, they might only get a reduced benefit.
Mayor Hanson stated that there are a lot of senior citizens living on
County Road B-2 that will probably apply for deferments if the
improvement for B-2 is approved.
The City Clerk informed the Council that these matters should be discussed
at the time the improvement is approved.
The Council approved the road budget at $60,215.
Mr. Dick Boss presented to the Council the 1981 budget for fire protection.
This budget is estimated at $68,065.00. This is only a slight increase
over last year's budget of $64,270.00. Mr. Boss indicated that the Fire
Department is budgeting $7,000 per year to be set aside for the purchase
of an additional fire truck some time in the future.
Mr. Boss indicated that the firemen only received $2.86 per run for fire
calls in 1979. Mr. Boss hoped that this amount could be increased for
this year.
Boss also informed the Council that the Fire Department has $6,400 set
aside for work that was done on the Fire Department's roof. The work
was not properly done by the contractor, and the contractor has not been
paid. Mr. Fahey stated that if the contractor wi17 not complete the
work satisfactorily, the Fire Department should have someone else complete
the work, pay them from the $6,400 and give any remaining monies to the
original contractor.
Council approved the Fire Department budget as presented.
The police protection section of the budget is estimated at $163,313.00 for
1981. This is an increase over the 1980 budget. In 1980 costs of police
protection were estimated at $120,247.00.
Page -4-
