MINUTES
City Council
October 8, 1980
Engineering The Engineer reported that the only comment he would like to make on
Feasibility the petition for watermain on Greenbrier Circle is that it cannot be
Reports done unless the watermain is approved for County Road B-2.
Engineer Carley reported that both storm sewer and watermain have
been petitioned for on County Road B-2.
The Mayor stated that the Metropolitan Waste Commission has been considering
County Road B-2 for a project. The project, however, is not yet in design.
Metro Sewer stated that they would know better toward the end of the year
as to their plans. Mayor Hanson commented that if this project goes
in it should go in at the same time that watermain and storm sewer would
go.
The Engineer stated that it could be seven or eight years before Metro
would be getting underway. Carley also stated that the project may not
even go down County Road B-2.
The Mayor stated that the City should let Metro Waste know what its plans
are, and if possible, Metro Waste could then coordinate its efforts with
those of the City's. Hanson stated that the hearing on the storm sewer
and watermain project on County Road B-2 would be held at the November
meeting.
The Engineer stated that he has informed Metro Sewer of the City's plans
and that the storm sewer and watermain could go in next Spring if the
project is approved. Carley stated that this might push Metro to make
some decisions.
Scalze asked if Metro Sewer participated in the project if it would change
the cost. The Engineer stated that Metro Sewer would share in the cost of
the paving.
Carley also stated that the State, County and Maplewood would be involved
in a share of the storm sewer cost on County Road B-?_.
Mayor Hanson asked if the City should designate County Road B-2 as a State
aid road. The Engineer felt that would be a good idea. The County has not
used County Road B-2 as a state aid road. The Engineer stated that the
street does connect two heavy arterial roads, which is one of the criteria
for a state aid road. The Engineer also suggested that there might be
some advantages in taking County Road B-2 over from the County.
Councilman De6ace stated that even if County Road B-2 remained a County
road, the City could still claim it as a state aid road.
Mayor Hanson stated that there are several senior citizens living on County
Road B-2 who would probably apply for senior citizen deferments of their
assessments.
The Engineer stated that Park Street has been petitioned for the improvement
of road, sewer, water, and storm sewer. Engineer Carley also informed the
Council that there are some easements that will be needed on Park Street,
Page -12-
