MINUTES
City Council
November 12, 1980
Mr. Len Pearson of 651 County Road B-2 appeared before the Council and
requested that this matter be tabled until the Metro Sewer line goes
through. Mayor Hanson replied that the City has no definite commitment
from Metro Sewer on this line.
Mr. Jim Engstrom of 670 County Road B-2 informed the Council that he was
against the improvement.
Mr. George Lynch of 692 County Road B-2 informed the Council that he was
against the storm sewer and watermain improvement.
Mr. Edward Erickson of 777 East Viking Drive appeared before the Council
and told the Council that he was concerned about the 20% of the cost of the
improvement that would go on general taxes. Mr. Erickson stated that it
is the dam between Round Lake and Keller that is causing the drainage
problems in this area. Mr. Erickson was also concerned with putting in
a 36 foot blacktop road on County Road B-2. rather than the 24 foot road
that is there presently. Mr. Erickson stated that he was against the
project as it is not necessary.
Mayor Hanson stated that with continued development the City will have
more run-off. Hanson also stated that the Council has no control over
the amount of traffic that goes down County Road B-2. The question of
traffic was also a point that Mr. Erickson had raised.
Mr. Len Pearson stated that he was opposed to the storm sewer as it would
benefit very few property owners and that he was also opposed to the
watermain.
Marcella Antone stated that she was for the watermain improvement, but
felt the cost of the storm sewer improvement was excessive and she was
against it.
Mr. Reme Ducharme informed the Council that he was opposed to the improvements.
Councilman Fahey suggested that if the City declared County Road B-2 as a
state-aid road, this would give the City funds to clean the ditches in the
area and the County would also participate in their share of the cost.
The Engineer informed everyone that 10% of state-aid monies can be used
for maintenance.
Mrs. Wallin asked what would happen if a home in the area had a fire as
there presently is no water in the area. Councilman Fahey stated that
the Fire Department has two tanker trucks that could take care of any
home fire without any problems.
Mr. Fred Smith of 633 County Road B-2 stated that he was opposed to the
improvements.
Chris Goodlake and Dolores Elawkins both stated that they were opposed to
the improvement. Mr. Tom Reed of Greenbrier Circle suggested that the
ditches in the area be cleaned out rather than installation of storm sewer.
Page -3-
