MINUTES
City Council
November 12, 1980
Mayor Hanson stated that he talked to Mr. Anderson and he was not opposed
to the improvement of Park Street.
Mr. Veilleux stated that he was not opposed to the improvement, but suggested
that a cul-de-sacs be put in rather than going through to Demont. Vei1leux
then stated that he was opposed to the improvement unless there was a cul-
de-sac.
Mr. Russ Johnson stated that he was opposed unless there was a cul-de-sac
put in.
Mr. Conway appeared before the Council. Mr. Conway stated that this
subject has been coming up every couple of years. Conway stated that
a cul-de-sac could present fire protection problems. It would also
destroy a large amount of buildable land. There would also be the
problem of speeding vehicles going through the cul-de-sac. Mr. Conway
also stated the School District would like Park Street through so that
their school buses would have another route to County Road C and then to
Rice Street. Mr. Conway also brought up the question of the size of
the road that would be needed if commercial traffic was allowed onto
Park Street.
Mayor Hanson stated that the longer the development of Park Street is
held off, the greater the cost will be.
Councilman Nadeau stated that if Mr. Johnson does not want to give his
property for an easement, he was not in favor of the development of
Park Street. Nadeau also stated that with the commercial property on
Park Street, you couldn't get by with a cul-de-sac. Nadeau stated that
at present he was opposed.
Councilman Fahey stated that he was not in favor of a cul-de-sac. Fahey
also stated that he would prefer hearing from more people that they
were in favor of Park Street.
Councilwoman Scalze asked the Engineer how wide a cul-de-sac is. The
Engineer replied that it is 60 feet wide.
Mr. Mark Schultz stated that he would like to see Park Street go all the
way through, but that he was opposed to it at the price the Engineer has
determined it would cost. Mr. Schultz asked if he would be assessed
for Park Street. The Engineer replied that once a property has been
assessed for an improvement, it couldn't be assessed again.
Fahey suggested the possibility of improving Lake Street be looked at.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 80-11-421 - CLOSING THE PUBLIC HEARING ON
IMPROVEMENT N0. 81-3, THE IMPROVEMENT OF PARK STREET FROM
DEMONT TO COUNTY ROAD C
Page -7-
