MINUTES <br />City Council <br />January 14, 1981 <br />Mr. Douglas stated that he was not opposed ~o Flllen Avenue going in. <br />Mayor Nanson stated that the whole area should be considered and a plan <br />worked out. <br />Mr. Peterson informed the Council that Fire Side Homes wants to purchase <br />property as they need it. In the event that they did not make it financially <br />the surrounding property owners would be left with property that they could <br />not put a street in. <br />The Engineer stated that the Council could go with this proposal on single <br />family lots or put in twin homes on both sides of the street. <br />Fahey stated that the Council should only be down-zoning property and the <br />City has enough high density property alrea~y. Fahey stated that he was <br />not in favor of up-zoning any property. <br />Mrs. Scalze stated that the Park Commission is looking at park development <br />in this area. <br />Mr. Douglas stated that he could not work with this project as single family. <br />Councilman Fahey stated that the whole area should be looked at for <br />development. Councilwoman Scalze suggested that all the property owners <br />in the area should get together. <br />Mrs. Nardini stated that she feels the Council should stick to the R-1 <br />zoning that is being proposed for the area. <br />Fahey asked if this would be subsidized housing. Mr. Douglas stated that <br />it would be built so that it could comply with federal specifications <br />so that buyers could get this type of financing. <br />Councilman Forsberg stated that if Mr. Douglas' plan did not fit in with <br />the City's plan, the Council shou1d not consider it. Forsberg stated <br />that the Council has the opportunity to lay out the area proper7y and <br />should do it. <br />Mr. Douglas stated that they are trying to ge~r to the price range that <br />people can afford. <br />Fahey stated that the City must develop the land in a way it willbe more <br />compatible for the people of the area. fahey suggested that Mr. Douglas <br />study the situation more. <br />Mayor Nanson suggested that the Council have the Engineer develop a firm <br />grid system for the area. <br />The Engineer stated that about the only way to work out the area would <br />be single family lots. <br />Fahey stated that he was content with the street system the Engineer has <br />already proposed for the area. <br />Mr. Douglas stated that if Fire Side Homes cannot develop a twin home <br />project, they will not do anything in the area. <br />Page -6- <br />
