MINUTES <br />City Council <br />Flpri7 22, 1987 <br />Fahey suggested that the Parks Commission should consider a pedestrian <br />walkway over the freeway to connect the water works property. Fahey <br />suggested that funding for such a proposal could be obtained from a <br />grant. <br />The Engineer stated that such a request should be made to the Flighway <br />Department, however, their funding is low at this time. <br />Nardini suggested that another alternative for a walkway would be <br />in the area of County Road B-2 near Kellogg High School. <br />Mr. fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION N0. 81-4-196 - INSTRUCTING THE CITY FNGINEER <br />TO IPIQUIRE AND REPORT TO TFIG COUNCIL THE RESULTS OF <br />HIS CONTACTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT REGARDING <br />THEIR POSITION ON 7HE CONSTRUCTIO~! OF Fl PEDESTRIAN WALK-WAY <br />IN THE AREA OF THE WATEk WORKS RTGHT-OF-WAY OR IN THE AREA <br />OF COUNTY ROFlD B-2 WITFI EITNER TNE WALK-WAY TO BE FUNDED QY <br />THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPFlRTMENT OR IF THERE IS OBJECTION TO <br />THEIR FUNDING THE PROPOSAL, k~ITFI THE WALI<-WAY TO BE ~UNDED <br />EITHER THROUGH CITY FUNDS OR BY MEANS OF A GRANT, AND <br />FURTHER INSTRUCTING THE PARK COMMISSION TO TRY TO SOLICIT <br />FUNDING FOR THIS PROPOSAL <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Hanson. <br />Ayes (5) Fahey, Hanson, Nardini, Scalze, Forsberg. <br />Nayes (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 7, Page 130. <br />Mr. Sanders also gave the City an update on the projects that are <br />planned for Spooner Park. The Park Commission is planning construction <br />of a post barrier to close off the School from vehicles, the completion <br />of the trail system in the park and the surfacing of the road and lower <br />parking area. Mr. Sanders reported that Mr. Paul Borg of the Schoo1 <br />District objects to the surfacing of the lower parking area, therefore, <br />the Park Commission will hold off on this. <br />The Park Commission is also planning for the planting of trees and <br />shrubs in the park along the trails. <br />Maplewood The City has received correspondence from the City of Maplewood concerning <br />Subdivision a subdivision proposal for 20 lots in the area of Arcade Street and <br />Proposal Ke11er Parkway. The City of Maplewood is inquiring if the City of Little <br />Canada has any objections to the proposal. <br />Mrs. Scalze felt the issue of drainage into Gervais Lake should be <br />addressed. <br />The Engineer reported that there are several government agencies that <br />the developer must go through with this proposa1. <br />Page -12- <br />
