NiINUTES <br />C~ty Council <br />October 2II, 1981 <br />The Flttorney commented that he does not want the responsibility for <br />all the problems. <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that in some areas he agrees with Mr. Fahey> but <br />in others he dnes not. forsberg also stated that he feels there ~is <br />a little conflict with two attorneys present. forsberg also stated <br />that in some circumstances the Planner tries to do the Attorney's job. <br />Mr. forsberg stated that if the job coulcl get stepped up in some <br />cases, he would be satisfied. <br />Mrs. Scalze commented that she mentioned some of the things she was <br />upset with. Scalze commented that she did not know this was coming <br />up for discussion tonight. Mrs. Scalze commented that if Mrs. Nardiiii <br />can keep lists of pending items, why can't the attorney. Mrs. Scalze <br />stated that she should not have to do the job of the Attorney and <br />this puts a burden on her that is unfair. Mrs. Scalze was referring <br />to the research she did with regard to senior c9tizen deferrments. <br />P4rs. Scalze commented that she was not in a position to vote on <br />entertaining applications for City Flttorney position in 1982 at <br />tonight's meeting. <br />Mr. DeBace commented that there is no situation that cannot be worked <br />out. Mr. DeBace stated that the Council has to get the City to work. <br />DeBace felt that if Metro Council knew the City were having problems, <br />they would like to take over a little more of the responsibility of the <br />Council. DeBace stated that if something does not get done, the Council <br />does not know if there is a reason for it unless they talk to the <br />person involved. DeBace stated that the Council is here to get the job <br />done for the Cii:y. <br />Mr. Hanson stated that he is not alvaays happy with the job everyone <br />does, but if he has a problem with this he will discuss it with the <br />person and find out the reason something is not getting done. <br />Mr. Flanson stated that he was not in favor of supporting Mr. Fahey's <br />suggestion. Hanson felt that the message was received by the Attorney. <br />Hanson stated that if the Council wants to make a change, it can be <br />done at time of appointment. <br />Mr. Fahey stated that it was too late to vote on this in January. <br />Mrs. Scalze commented that she is tired of hearing complaints about the <br />attorney and then the people complaining not saying anything about it. <br />Mr. Hanson commented that if Councilmembers do not agree with the advise <br />of the Attorney, the Council should make a decision at the time whether <br />or not to take the advice. <br />Mrs. Scalze commented that this is the day of the lawsuit. Mrs. Sca1ze <br />also commented that the City Council's job was impossible. <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that everyone is expected to do his or her job. <br />Forsberg also stated that he was tired of hearing about the position <br />of code enforcement officer. Forsberg felt this position was just to <br />watch that everyone did their job. <br />Page -29- <br />
