M~NUTES
City Council
Dlovember 25, 1981
Maplewoo~ The City Planner reported that the City has received notification of
Zoning a public hearing regarding a proposed rezoning in the City of Maplewood.
Hearings The property proposed for rezoning is located west of Highway 61,
south of County Road D and North of Beam Avenue. The present zoning
of this property is Farm Residence and Light Manufacturing. The City
is proposing to rezone to Residential Estates. Under this type of
zoning, single family lots would consist of 30,000 square feet.
The P1anner reported that the proposed rezoning is consistent with
the surrounding Little Canada property and the Planner saw no problem
with it. The Planner stated that the rezoning could increase Little
Canada property values in that area.
The P7anner also informed the Council that a Mr. Brink is looking into
the possibility of running a road along the Little Canada-Maplewood
border. Mr. Brink's property is such that the topography m~y not allow
him access to LaBore Road.
Maplewood does not want to preclude Mr. Brink from developing his property,
but they are not excited about getting into the situation of having a
street half in Littte Canada and half in Maplewood.
P~rs. Scalze stated that the City recently approved a property division
for Rocky Waite in this area and there may not be enough property for
ded9cation of 30 feet for a roa~.
The P1anner stated that the City of Maplewood would like the City's feelings
on this matter.
Mrs. Scalze stated that she was not in favor of running the street through
to Beam Avenue. P9r. Fahey commented that he a~ould not want to cio anything
that would encoura~e the development of Qeam Avenue.
The Planner suggested that he inform Maplewood that the City is concerned
about this matter and request that they place a ho1d on it.
Mayor Hanson agreed that the Planner should inform Maplewood of this.
Lakeshore The Planner stated that he has sent a letter to James Meyer, owner of the
Shopping Lakeshore Shopping Center, informing him that he has not completed the
Center screening on the southeast corner of his property and has not insta1led the
exit only sign on the driveway at the shopping center.
The Planner also reported that there was no definite landscape plan
proposed for the shopping center, The plan that was approved for the
islan~ was crushed rock or landscaping. Flowever, the island is on the
County right-of-way and the County probably would not go along with
any landscaping in this area because of snowplowing.
The Planner stated that the letter went by certified mail and he would
probably have a response at the next meeting.
Page -10-
