MINUTES
City Council
November 25, 1981
Mr. Hanson is proposing to send this notice out as a mailing to all
property owners in little Canada.
Mr. Fahey suggested that the mai1ing go out with the sewer bills.
Fahey also stated that he would like to see the mailing before it
goes out.
The rest of the Council felt the notice should go out in the sewer bi11s.
Mr. Hanson stated that he would put together the mailing and submit it
to the Council for their review.
City's Mr. Hanson stated that he felt the City's Zoning Ordinance presented
Zoning problems to not only the City Council, but the Quilding Inspector.
Ordinance Fianson felt the ordinance was very compl~cated, Hanson felt the Council
and the Planning Commission should review the or~dinance in terms of
enforcement. Hanson felt that the ordinance should be made easier to
live with and enforce.
Mrs. Scalze asked Mr. hlanson if he H~anted to relax the ordinance. Hanson
replied that he wanted to make it more liveable.
Mr. Fahey stated that when a new Ruilding Inspector is appointed, the
Council should go through the ordinance with him.
Mrs. Scalze stated that just because the City has been handled a certain
way for the last 50 years does not make that way right.
Mayor Hanson suggested that this ordinance could be reviewed after the
first of the year.
Salary For Mrs. Nardini pointed out that applications for a new Quilding Inspector
Quilding are being taken unt91 December 3. Nardini asked if the Council wanted
Inspector to discuss the salary for this position tonight. Mrs. Nar~ini also
stated that in reviewing the applications the City has received to date
she feels that some of the applicants are qualified and others are not.
Mr. Forsberg stated that he thought the applications should be narrowed
down to 3 to 5 and the Council shou1d designate a night to review these
applicants. Forsberg felt the Council could then meet with the building
inspector and talk about salary and the zoning ordinance.
Mrs. Nardini felt that the building inspector position required about
a to 16 hours each week.
Fahey felt the City should go a flat fiee per month if it can and maybe
three days per week, four hours each day. Fahey also felt that the new
building inspector shou1d be looking at code violations.
Fahey then stated perhaps the City should stick with the $~00 per month
and 80% of fee and special rate for specia1 assignments it is paying
the current building inspector. Fahey suggested the Council narrow the
applicants down to three at the December 9th meeting and then have a special
meeting to interview the applicants. The special meeting could be called
on the 9th, Page -19-
