MINUTES
City Council
December 9, 1981
Council on this. uJhen told of this, Hughes Coristruct9on said they
would stick to their plan. Then, Hughes Construction went ahead and
changed their landscap9ng without contacting the Counci1. Mrs. Nardini
felt that as a result, the Council shou1d hold their bond until they
do their landscaping the way it was set out on the plan.
The Planner stated that the new landscaping does the same as the
landscaping indicated on the plan.
Mr. Fahey stated that he was satisfied if it does the same thing.
The Planner stated that he would get the actual numbers of plantings
and submit these to the Council.
Pha7en 7he Mayor has been invited to attend a meeting regarding the Phalen
Overflow Lake overflow. Mr. Hanson indicated that Mrs. Nardini would attend
the meeting and he would a1so make it if he could.
Building The City has received numerous applications for the position of Building
Inspector Official. Some of these app1icants eppear to be qualified, while others
do not. Council narrowed the number of applicants down to 9.
Council then discussed the salary of the building inspector. P4rs. ~lardini
informed the Council that the City Planner suggested that the salary be
set at 75% of all plan check fees. The City currently pays the building
inspector~4oo per month plus IIO% of the check plan fees for commercia7.
Mrs. Nardini felt that if she contacted the applicants and informed them
of the salary the City is intending to pay plus the requirement of a
Class II license, this would narrow down the applicants even further.
Mrs. Nardini asked if the Council wanted to include other inspection
duties with that of the building inspector. Mr. Fahey did not think
the Council should do this as the City has not received any complaints
about any of the other inspectors. Mr. Forsberg felt the City should
have more than one inspector looking at buildings.
Mrs. Nardini stated that the p1umbing inspector is not happy that the
City is taking away his ~200 ~er month and setting him up on the same
system as the other inspectors.
Council felt that a special meeting would be held to interview building
inspector applicants.
The City Clerk suggested the building inspector salary remain the same.
Mr. Fahey commented that he would like the $400 per month to include
special assignments.
Mrs. Nardini thought the inspector might do better if his who1e salary
were based on a percentage. Mr. Fahey did not agree feeling that the
building inspector would not be that concerned with a percentage of a
small fee.
Paae -19-
