MINUTES <br />City Council <br />December 16, 1981 <br />Mr. Fahey asked Mr. Fldolphson if he had any bui7ding experience. Mr. <br />Adolphson replied that he is not a carpenter, but has done foun~ation <br />work. <br />Mr. Forsberg asked Mr. Adolphson when he p1anned to retire. Adolphson <br />reptied not before he was 70, but as long as he is healthy, would like <br />to continue working. <br />Mrs. Scalze asked if Mr. Pdolphson would be willing to drive around <br />the City and inspect for zoning violations. Mr. Adolphson replied <br />that he was the planning and zoning inspector for [lk River. <br />Fahey stated that the City needs someone independent who can do the <br />job for the City and would be fair to everyone and can keep good <br />records. <br />Mr. P~lolphson asked if the City provided a vehic1e to the building <br />inspector or pa5d for mileage. Fahey replied that the sa1ary wou7d <br />be such to provide compensation for this. <br />The Council thanked Mr. Fl~olphson and informed him that they would <br />get back in touch with him. <br />The next applicant was Lewis Miller. Mr. Miller was employed as a <br />building inspector for the City of Maplewood from February 1979 <br />through May, 1980. However, due to budget cuts, this position was <br />eliminated. Mr. Miller presently has a contracting business. <br />Mr. Miller informed the Council that he was an inspector in Maplewood <br />and inspected residential property, but did not do commercial. Mr. <br />Lewis Miller stated that he had no experience in commercial. <br />Mrs. Scalze asked Mr. Miller if he was looking for fulltime or part- <br />time work. Miller stated that he really uias looking for fulltime, <br />but since he did have a construction business, part-time would fit <br />in with his schedule. <br />Scalze asked if Miller would be agreeable to driving around the Ci~y <br />and looking for zoning violations. Mr. Miller stated that he did this <br />in Maplewood. <br />Mr. Fahey asked Mr. Miller what his salary expectations were. Mr. Miller <br />stated that he was open to whatever the City might suggest. Mr. Mi11er <br />canmented that he does have his own benefits. <br />Mrs. Scalze asked Mr. Miller if he were experienced in record keeping. <br />Mr. Miller replied that he kept records in Maplewood. <br />Mr. forsberg asked P4r. Miller how he would handle a situation where a <br />close friend did not take out a building permit and was building <br />a structure. Miller replied that this situation did come up in Maplewoo~ <br />and he told the friend to take out a permit, which he did. <br />Page -5- <br />
