MINUTES
City Council
February 3, J.982
i~laplewood Mrs. Scalze £elt the Engineer was estimating the number of potential
Sewer connections too high, and thus lowering the cost to the Maplewood
Connections residents requesting hook.+ups.
Carley suggested that perhaps a more realistic figure of potexitial
hootc..ups would be 120, This would bring the cost of the hook-up
to approximately ~4U0.
Council was agreeable to this ~1~00 figure. Mayor Hanson informed
the Clerx that when a hook~,up is requested, the City would bill
the C~ty of i~aplewood for the hook.,up charge and Niaplewood would
collect it £rom its property owner.
F'ire The City Clerk repoxted that he contacted Mr, Locke and he is agreeable
Marshall to performing the duties of the City~s F'ire Marsha7.l for ~;150 per
Yosition month, Locke will perform these duties within the 24 hours per
week he presently spends in the City as Building Inspector.
Council was agreeable to the list of priorities that Mr. Locke
submitted to the Councii, but felt that school ins~ections should
be made before apartment inspections,
Shoreview The Engineer reported that the City of Shoreview would like to know
Water how much it would cost them to connect to Little Canada~s watermai.n,
Connection They have five lots on Rice Street that need water and they are
trying to determine whether or not to build their own watexmain.
The N~ngineer reported that when that section of watermain was built
it cost the property owners $6.50 per front foot. 'Phis was only 80%
of the assessrnent, 100% of the assessment would be ~~,80 per front
foot.
i°ir, F'oraberg commented that the City of Roseville is trying to get
away f'rom providing water to property owners in adjoining cities.
r'orsberg stated that it costs the City more work.
Nlrs. Scalze commented that these costs can be charged to Shoreview,
Scalze also felt that the connections to Shoreview should be charged
at today~s water assessment rate. Mr. Forsberg and t~1rs. iVardini agreed
with this.
Hanson asked if this charge should be on the basis of a front footage
assessment o~ a flat charge.
The Engineer informed the Council that Hoseville has charged Little
Canada residents about $3,000 for connecting to their water system.
However~ part of this cost was for running the line under the road.
Roger Glanzer stated that the City should promote water hook..ups as
the more hook..ups the cheaper water is £or everyone.
Page -,3»
