MINtJTES <br />City Counci.l <br />August 11, 1982 <br />Towing P1r. Porsberg commented that he spolce with one of the local body <br />(Cont.) shops and they were concerned that the towing companies would get <br />the body shop work. <br />Mr. Tahey stated that if a business can expand and get two ar.eas <br />of. the business~ more power to them. Pahey commented that the CiCy <br />shouLd not get involved i.n this. Mr. rorsberg agreed. <br />Game Room Mayor tlanson poi.nted out ehat the Ci[y Clerk is r.ecommendi.n~ that <br />Licenses the City licensc any game r.oom w~ith over three mach:ines. <br />Agenda Mr. Stri.bl:ing commented that the Ci.ty's definition of what a game <br />Item No. 14 room is is unclear. Str.i.mli.n~; also su~ge>ted that the word "token" <br />be added in number two of the ordinance, as there are times when <br />a game i.s operated by a tolcen. <br />Mr, I'orsberg aslced what the probLem is wi.th the ordi.nance and <br />commented that perhaps Mr. Strimling wanted the ordi.nance ti~;htened <br />up i.n or.der to protect himself. <br />Mr. Striml.ing stated that that was noC [he case. StrimLing poi.nted <br />out that certain Uusinesses have games in their place of busi.ness, <br />Strimling aslced cahat constitutect a~ame r.oom versus a business such <br />as a grocery store that has a couple of games. Mr. Strimling aslced <br />why he has ~o pay a license fee when someone else does not. <br />Mr.. Hanson su~;gested that perhaps the C.ity sliould be chargi.n~; per <br />machine. <br />The City Clerk stated that some businesses are autom~Cically licensEl <br />for games under an amusement license. <br />Mr.. Fahey su~gested that perhaps the City should set a certain <br />numUer of games at ivhi.ch point. a li.cense ~aould be required. <br />Mr. Str.imli.np stated that this is what other cities are doing. <br />Strimling also pointed out thaC you get i.nto a grey area when <br />you are talking about a separate room for machines versus dem:isi.ng <br />walls. <br />ir[r. Strimli.ng informed the Council that the Cities of St. Paul and <br />Minneapol.is l~ave set the number of machines at three for the requixement <br />of a license. <br />P4r. Pahey stated that he agrees with the staff. recommendation <br />thaC ~aould require a li.cense for mnre than three machines. <br />Mr. l~lanson questioned hoca the City wi11 police thi.s.
