Mr. Porsberg stated that if. ttie merchants <br />want an earl~i.er date for the installati.on o[ the signal, they should <br />pick up the cost. <br />Mr. Ilanson aslced iS ttie City could enter. into an agreement whereby <br />the merchants covld provide the fundi.ng Co the City for the si.gnal. <br />The Ci.ry Audi.tor stated that he h~s never seen a situati.on l:ilce thi.s, <br />and suggested that the City Attor.ney loolc at it. <br />Mrs. Nardi.ni. stated that she f.elt that Flillsbor.ough and the commercial <br />bui.Ldings in Roseville added a lot of traffic to the area. <br />Mr. Newman informed the Counci.l. that i.f they act on this at their <br />next Council meeti.ng, Roseville wi.ll do the same. Ne=aman stated <br />that he goC the i.mpr.essi.on Chat iE~ L,i.ttle Canada approved this, <br />Roseviile would too. <br />Mr. Porsberg stated that he f.elt the merchants were in a better position <br />to pick up the cost than the City was. Mar~;oli_s stated that the Council made the area a commerci.al one <br />ancl, therefore, invited development. Margolis state<1 that the Council <br />has an obligati.on to publ:i.c safety. <br />Mr. I'orsberg stated that it this was brought up at the time the Little <br />Canada Mall was bein~; consi.dered, the project would never have been <br />appr.oved. Yorsberg stated that the City does noC have the $10,000 and <br />he wil.l not support the Cemporarq s:i.gnal. <br />Mr. Marp,oli.s asl<ed if the mer.chants paid for this signal, if the cost <br />could be abated on their taxes. Mrs. Scalze stated that t:he merchants <br />would have to discuss Chis wi.th the County. <br />Mr. Margoli.s stated that the Council should consi.der the hazarclous <br />si.tuation at the i.ntersection. Mr. Forsberg poi.nte<1 out that the <br />brid~;e on Rice Street is also hazardous. <br />Mr. rorsberg agreed that the signal i.s needed, btrt the Ci.ty does not <br />have the .^p10,000. rorsberg pointed out that the City has to come up <br />wzth the money £or a L:i.re truclc. <br />Mrs. Vardini stated that if the discussion was about the permanent <br />s.i,nal~ everyone would be i.n agreement.
