MINUTES
City Council
April 23, 1986
Sophie- Glanzer reported that maintenance will cost more because of the
Peterson two cul-de-sacs that will be in existence because there will be
Plat double snowplowing costs, street sweeping, seal-coating, etc.
(Cont.)
Glanzer did not think the Park Commission has looked at alternative
sites for a park. ~lanzer also stated that even if the street
went through, the City could still have its trail system in the
area.
G1anzer reported that there is property east of Greenbrier that
could be looked at as an alternative site as well as property on
the south end of new Thiander Bay Road.
Scalze reported that the property at the end of Thunder Bay Road
is a beautiful location, but there is a grove of pine trees on
this land, that the City would not cut down for a ballfield.
Scalze pointed out that at a recent Park Commission meeting,
Mr. Glanzer did not bring up any alternative locations.
Glanzer reported that sewer and water will go through the park area.
Glanzer also reported that he is concerned about the cost to
the City of maintaining two cul-de-sacs. Glanzer also pointed out
that the Park Commission is not real happy with the site.
Scalze stated that the only alternative would be to purchase
property between the Goff development and ~aBore Road. Scalze
pointed out that this would take a lot of time.
Blesener suggested that a park in the area of the Goff development
may be needed in addition to this proposal.
Fahey pointed out that if the City does not take this opportunity
now, the property will be gone, and the City may be sorry in the
future.
Glanzer stated that the City could run the street through and still
have a park. However, it would not be large enough for a ballfield.
Scalze stated that the Park Commission feels a ballfield is needed.
Scalze asked about the property behind Ray Hanson's property and
why Thunder Bay Road was not extended further south.
Mr. Hanson explained the history of the property and its ownership.
Hanson also stated that no one ever asked to extend the cul-de-sac
further south.
Scalze asked if the property owners would be interested in sc~lling
this piece of land. Mr. Hanson did not believe they would.
Page -8-
