MINUTES
City Council
Jan. 5, 1987
Council
Liaison
Appointments
(Cont.)
area of expertise and he has plans and goals in this area that he
wished to accomplish during 1987.
Fahey felt that it would be more appropriate that someone who is
not a full-time employee of Ramsey County hold this liaison position,
and pointed out that typically the Mayor has held the Public Safety
liaison position.
LaValle pointed out that Fahey held a position on the City's Fire
Department and questioned if this would be a conflict-of-interest.
Fahey pointed out that he was a member of the Fire Department, but
this was not his full-time employment. Fahey also reported that
because he is a member of the Fire Department, he does not serve
on the Fire Department Pension Board.
Fahey reported that as P4ayor he is asked to attend meetings with
the Sheriff's Department as well as other mayors regarding public
safety. Fahey pointed out that this is the only area where the
City is dealing with agencies outside the parameters of City government
and felt that this public relations-type area was appropriate for the
Mayor's responsibilities.
Blesener agreed, and pointed out that even when the Public Safety
area was handled by other than the Mayor in the past, the Mayor was
still called upon to attend various meetings in this area.
Blesener felt that any plans Mr. LaValle had in this area could still
be carried out.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 87-1-6 - DESIGNATING TNE FOLLOWING
COUNCIL LIAISON POSITIONS FOR 1987:
Rick Collova Building and Zoning
Beverly Scalze Parks and Recreation
Bill Blesener Utilities
Jim LaValle Administration
Mike Fahey Public Safety
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mrs. Scalze.
Ayes (4) Blesener, Scalze, Fahey, Collova.
Nays (1) LaValle.
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Page 6.
Page -4-
