MINUTES
City Councit
Jan. 28, 1987
Bingo Board and he had information to pass on to the Council from that meeting.
(Cont.)
Fahey suggested that Mr. Voto, the City's Auditor, could have his
report completed for the workshop meeting and submit it to the
Council for discussion then. Fahey suggested that the City Clerk
contact the Auditor and request that he have a report prepared for
a workshop meeting. The Auditor need not attend the meeting, but
can submit his report ~n writing.
Council set a workshop meeting to discuss Little Canada Charitable
Bingo for Saturday, February 7, 1987 at 9:00 A.M.
Bond Fahey reported that tomorrow there is a meeting with the City Auditor
Pooling and Brad Farnham of Juran & Moody to discuss pending legislation
making it possible for cities to pool bond monies. Juran & Moody
Agenda may be requesting Council approval to allow the City to participate
Addition should the Legislature approve the proposal. Fahey explained the
proposal and explained that this program may take the place of
industrial revenue bonds. Fahey reported that at this point this
was for Council information.
Gavel Fahey reported that the North Suburban Gavel Association is seeking
Leadership nominations for their annual Gavel Leadership Award. Nominees
Award should be individuals who have shown outstanding leadership qualities
through their volunteer activities. Fahey reported that nominations
Agenda are due by February 28, and requested that the Council consider
Addition individuals that could be nominated and also suggested that if anyone
from the general public had a nomination in mind, they could inform
the City Clerk prior to February 11 Council meeting.
Ambulance Fahey pointed out the recent article in the St. Paul Pioneer Press
Service comparing ambulance service in the surrounding cities. Fahey felt
that the article was an excellent one and due to the information
Agenda contained in the article, the City did not need to pursue the matter
Addition further.
Scalze pointed out that according to the article, Little Canada is
one of 7 or II cities using Health Central service. Scalze pointed
out that Falcon Heights provides less service, but at the same cost.
The article also states that the ambulance service in the City of
Maplewood, for which residents are charged $80 per call, actually
costs 8 times that amount, or $640 per call. The balance of the
cost is picked up through City taxes. Scalze pointed out that
Maplewood has a$400,000 budget for this service, therefore,
everyone in the City of Maplewood is paying about $20 per year
in taxes for this service.
Fahey pointed out that this $400,000 budget is greater than the amount
the City is paying the Sheriff's Department for police protection.
Page -16-
