MINUTES <br />City Council <br />Jan. 28, 1987 <br />Ambulance Scalze pointed out that the cost of ambulance service in Maplewood <br />Service does not include the cost of the services of volunteer firemen. <br />(Cont.) <br />Mr. Fahey suggested that the City Clerk send Mr. Samozsuk a copy <br />of the artic1e as well as a letter explaining the City's position. <br />International Mr. LaValle reported that he has discussed the International 500 <br />500 Snow- Snowmobile Race planned through the City this coming weekend with <br />mobile Race the Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Department feels that <br />unless there are 10 to 12 inches of snow received before the <br />Agenda weekend, the City should rescind its approval of the race. The <br />Addition Sheriff's Department also has reviewed the route planned for the <br />race, and there are certain areas of the route that the Department <br />feels are unsafe. <br />The City Clerk also pointed out that the County has been dredging <br />a pond in the City, over which the race will pass. <br />Scalze noted that pond easements are only over the width of water <br />o correction -o-€--a--pcm~-, and anythi ng el se i s consi dered pri vate property. <br />Res. 87-2-46 of Ditch 16 <br />LaValle also reported that the Sheriff's Department has contacted <br />the St. Paul Water Department, as the race will pass over Water Works <br />property. The St. Paul Water Department has never been contacted <br />by race officials regarding the use of their property. <br />Mr. Fahey felt that if 5 inches of snow were received, this would be <br />adequate for the race. <br />Council also discussed the fact that they were not in favor of the <br />race passing over private property, nor the use of bike paths in <br />the City or City trails. <br />Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87-1-38 - GRANTING THE RAMSEY <br />COUNTY SHERIFF S DEPARTMENT THE AUTHORITY TO <br />DISAPPROVE THE INTERNATIONAL 500 SNOWMOBILE <br />RACE IN THE EVENT THAT A SNOWFALL OF AT LEAST <br />5 INCHES IS NOT RECEIVED, AND IF THE SHERIFF'S <br />DEPARTMENT FEELS THE ROUTE IS UNSAFE OR <br />INAPPROPRIATELY TRESPASSES ON PRIVATE PROPERTY <br />OR CITY PROPERTY, AND FURTHER DECLARIPlG THAT <br />THE CITY DOES NOT WANT THE SNOWMOBILE RACE TO <br />USE BIKE PATHS WITHIN THE CITY <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Collova. <br />Ayes (5) Fahey, Collova, LaValle, Blesener, Scalze. <br />Nays (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Pzge 39. <br />Page -17- <br />
