MINUTES
City Council
Feb. 25, 1987
1987 Water
8: Sewer
Budgets
(Cont.)
Blesener pointed out that when the City decided to wait until the
Maplewood rate was negotiated, it did not realize the process would
take so long. Blesener felt the City should try to obtain the same
rate that Roseville and Maplewood will be paying, however, pointed
out that Little Canada does not use as much water as these two
cities and, therefore, i~ill still pay more for water per thousand
gallons as the rate is based on the amount of usage.
However, Glanzer reported that it is his understanding that a lot
of the issues have been negotiated, inctuding the rate which will
be the same as what is being charged to the City of Roseville.
Glanzer pointed out that the City would pay less than it is paying
currently.
Fahey agreed that the City should begin negotiations with St. Paul
to try to obtain the Roseville rate.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 87-2-81 - INSTRUCTING THE
CITY AUDITOR TO CONTACT THE CITY OF D9APLEI~OOD
AND VERIFY THEIR TENTATIVE AGREEMENT FOR i~aATER
RATES WITH THE CITY OF ST. PAUL IS THE SAME AS
THE RATE BEING CHARGE THE CITY OF ROSEVILLE, AND,
IF S0, ON THE CITY'S BEHALF, TNE AUDITOR SHOULD
COMMENCE NEGOTIATIONS WITH TNE CITY OF ST. PAUL
FOR A MORE FAVORABLE WATER CHARGE RATE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Blesener.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Blesener, LaValle, Scalze, Collova.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Page 86.
Glanzer explained the proposed increases in the 1987 proposed budget
which include an increase in the rate charged by St. Paul, as well
as increased electrical costs. Glanzer reported that St. Paul has
increased their rate by 7~ per thousand gallons, therefore, he was
proposing that Little Canada increase its rates from $1.40 per
thousand gallons to $1.50 per thousand gallons.
alesener asked what rate Glanzer thought the City might be able to
negotiate with St. Paul.
Glanzer estimated the rate at approximately $1.25 per thousand gallons.
Glanzer also reported that Metro Sewer has increased its SAC charge
for mobilehomes to 100%. Previously, mobilehomes were charged 80%
of a SAC unit as it was felt that a mobile home used less than the
average single-family home. However, due to new studies, Metro Sewer
Page -12-
