Fahey commented that if the City gets soil borings
done for the area, it may prove to the prop~rty owners that due to
poor soil conditions, the property is not good for industrial
development. Fahey commented that the City had planned for a nice
industrial park in this area, but might have to accept pole barns.
Blesener stated that he would not approve pole barns in this area.
Blesener also asked if the park could be located on the worst soils
in the area.
Sanders commented that the soils would support park development and
the buildings proposed would be relatively small.
Scalze asked if silt would support parking lots.
Sanders felt that silt would be better than peat.
Morelan stated that the location of the park was not critical, however,
the size was.
Fahey felt that the location could be targeted through soil borings.
DeLonais asked what the City would do if the property owners do not
want to sell.
Fahey commented that the City could condemn the property, however,
noted that there are for-sale signs on the vacant land.
Fahey also noted that while the property owners are asking $30,000
per acre, soil borings may prove that the property is only worth
$10,000 per acre.
Fahey report d that the Economic Development Committee will be meeting
ll correction wit~-a-~5~~•tomorrow who has set up economic development
Resolution corporations in other cities.
87-5-193
DeLonais noted that there are people in the City who do not want any
more development.
Scalze pointed out that all the vacant property in the City is for
sale, and the City is only attempting to get a better quality of
development on property that is currently for sale.
Page -3-
