MINUTES
City Council
May 12, 1987
Scalze noted that the Army Corps of Engineers has indicated that
the Johnson/Mosted property is limited in use, and park is the
only use of this property they will allow.
Fahey also noted the fact that the School District has Capital View
on the market, and the possible loss of these facilities.
Jerry ftutler reported that he owns 17 acres formerly known as the
Sweitzer property, and that in 1979 he had 5 test holes dug. These
tests indicated the soils were suitable for 2,000 pound footings and
could support a semi-light structure. Butler indicated that he has
a site plan and lay-out planned for the property, however, has not
gotten started on this development. Butler also indicated that he
i.s interested in acquiring the property to the north as part of the
development.
Butler indicated that the bad soils encountered by Larry Lee could be
localized, and noted that he has found this in other locations.
Butler stated that if the City was willing, they should have some
soil tests done to develop an underground topo of the area.
Scalze noted that if Butler was not interested in the location of a
park on his property, the City would not want to take soil tests on
this property.
Butler reported that he would provide the City with a copy of his soil
tests, and indicated that he did not run into the same types of soils
that Larry Lee did on his property.
Fahey asked if Butler could build within the existing zoning of the
property.
He replied that he could
Fahey felt there was no reason to proceed with soil tests due to the
information provided by Mr. Butler and the fact that Mr. Butler has
plans for the development of the majority of the area.
Scalze noted the property to the south of Butler.
Mrs. Bibeau indicated that she was interested in selling her property
located east of the section line. Fasciana also indicated that he
would like to sell, however, felt that poor soils would not be discovered
on his property.
Fahey noted that there were about 14 acres located south of the Butler
property and north of Montreal Courts.
Council discussed access to the site and felt that access from Centerville
would be preferable than Desoto.
Page -5-
