MSNUTES
City Council
June 17, 1987
Binqo
(Coni:, )
The foreqoinq recolution wa< dul.y ser_onded by Mr. LaValle.
Aves (5) Blesener. LaValle, Sc:~lze, Collova, Fahr~y,
PJa.ys (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
7his r~solution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Page 287.
Scalze noted that there are now only tu~o days left open for bingo
at the hall, and stated that she ~aould like to leave the opportunity
open for a local group to become involved.
Mrs. Pillsbury, representing St. Joseph's Society stated that
St. Joseph's Society is requesting the third. night of bingo as
it would like every night at the hall filled so there are no evenings
when the hall is not open. Pillsbury indicated that if the DAC
or a City organization wanted to lease an evening at the hall,
St. Joseph's Society would give up an evening.
P9r. Robert Platson, representing Roseville Youth Football Association,
appeared before the Council and submitted an application for a Class
A Bingo license for that association. Matson reported that two years
ago he became involved in the Association as they were out of funds
and thinking of going out of business. Matson started a pull-tab
operation at Paul's Place for the Association and in a year's time
$70,000 was raised through this operation.
P1atson explained that the group encompasses more than just youth
football, and is actually a youth association serving the entir2
North Suburban area. A committee has been formed of the presidents
of various youth athletic associations in the area, not just Roseville,
that administers where the money raised through the pull-tab operation
will oo. P1atson explained that the group is not intended to just
serve Roseville, but the entire area.
P1atson submitted a list of the various people forming the North
Suburban Youth Association indicating that not all of these people
are residents of Roseville.
Matson also submitted a listing showing the number of Little Canada
residents ~aho have participated in Roseville athletics.
P4atson reported that the North Suburban Youth Association has
established a grant program under which an organization can apply
for funding for youth-related activities. The Association, however,
does not pay the association directly, but rather vendors. Matson
informed the Council of the various contributions the Association has
made in the past year.
Matson reported that the North Suburban Youth Association operates
under the name of the Roseville Youth Football Association because
in order to meet State guidelines for charitable gambling licenses,
a group must have non-profit status for the past three years. The
North Suburban Youth Association is using the non-profit status of
the Roseville Football Association.
Paqe -6-
