raznurEs
City Council
June 17, 1987
Bingo Fahey asked if the money generated from bingo !aould go to the Roseville
(Cont.) Youth Football Association and if they would be able to do whatever
they wanted with this money.
P9atson explained that the Football Association has agreed to the
appointment of the committee called the North Suburban Youth
Association who would have control over the funds. The Football
Association would have to make application for funding just as any
other applicant.
P4atson also reported that his goal would be to have two people from
the Little Canada Recreation Association appointed to this committee.
LaValle asked if Matson has discussed the proposal with the Recreation
Association and Recreation Department.
Matson reported that he had a short meeting with members of these
two groups who seemed receptive to the idea. However, Steve Morelan
stated that he would be bringing the matter back to the Recreation
Association.
LaValle stated that he ~dould feel more comfortable if the license
were issued to the North Suburban Youth Association as Little Canada
would be more assured as to where the money is going. LaValle felt
there could be problems down the road if personnel changes were made
in the Football Association.
Matson explained again the need to find a non-profit organization that
has been in existence for three years in order to meet State
regulations. f-9atson felt that there was adequate control of the
situation and reported that he was very involved in the whole program.
Platson also asked for action at tonight's meeting as the State
needs a certain amount of lead time to review requests prior to
their meeting on June 29.
Matson also reported that the program is not intended to fund only
athletic activities, and pointed out that contributions have been
made to the Youth Service Bureau as ~aell. Matson stated that the
program was a broad one to service all youth.
Fahey asked if the group would consider contributions to groups such
as St. John's Men's Club and other religious groups and not be
limited to ,just the public school system.
Matson stated that they would make contributions to any youth-
related group, but contributions would take the form of payments
to vendors and not the group itself.
Scalze stated that the Council has to consider the benefit to Little
Canada in the past 2 years from this group.
Paoe -7-
