P4I~UTES
City Council
June 17, 1987
Bingo Fahey pointed out that Matson's reports reflect that about 80 children
(Cont.) from Little Canada participated in Roseville programs in 1987.
Collova asked if these children paid non-resident fees in Roseville.
Matson replied that they did, but this would be eliminated.
Scalze pointed out that the only money Little Canada Recreation
Flssociation gets for football is from a fund raiser and from St.
Joseph's Society. Scalze felt that if the Roseville program
was less expensive for the parents and had better equipment, Little
Canada residents would go to Roseville.
Matson pointed out that the Recreation Association could request
a grant for new equipment from the North Suburban Youth Association.
In this way the bingo proposal would benefit Little Canada directly.
Platson pointed out that he would have tight control over the
situation and assured the Council that the money raised from the
bingo operation would be spent and would benefit the north suburban
area and Little Canada.
Fahey asked how other communities would become involved in the
program.
Matson noted that there will be room on the ~lorth Suburban Youth
Association committee for more members. P9atson stated that he would
also like to get some pull-tab operations going in other communities.
Platson felt that charitable gambling was a tool to be used and it was
a mistake to use the names of boundaries to interfere with what can
happen.
Scalze asked how this proposal will impact on the probelm with hockey
that has been experienced in the past.
Jim P~orelan stated that the problem with hockey has not been with the
City of Roseville, but rather at the State level.
P1atson reported that the proposal is not being set up for the City
of Roseville's Park and Recreation Department, but is totally
independent.
Platson also pointed out that money would be used to buy-down fees to
parents for athletic programs, and this would include more than just
Roseville residents.
Morelan reported that P4atson has asked the Recreation Association to
become part of the group, however, the Recreation Association has not
made a decision on this. However, if anyone from the City is part of
the group, it should be the Recreation Association.
Blesener and Scalze agreed:
Page -8-
