MINUTES
City Council
June 24, 1987
Imp. No. Nana Costa, property owner in the area, reported that the basement
87-8 apartment of her home flooded in 1934, which has never happened in
(Cont.) the past. Her tenant's furniture was ruined and the tenant moved out.
Costa was concerned that this would happen again.
Fahey replied that the City will keep the concerns of the property
owners in mind.
Costa also indicated that the existing ditches in the area have never
been cleaned and should be.
Fahey pointed out that the ditches belong to the County who is
responsible for their maintenance. If the City cleaned the ditches,
it would have to assess the cost against the property owners abutting
the clitches.
Pete Costa asked if the City has considered piping the ditches.
Fahey pointed out that this would be expensive, however, if it gets
to the point that the County doesn't maintain the ditches and the
property owners demand it, the ditches will probably be piped.
Norm Dupree, property owner in the area, asked if the ditch would
be straightened out when storm sewer and ponding is installed.
The Engineer replied that some portions of the ditch may be straightened
out if the City damages the ditch while working in the area. However,
indicated that the ditch is not laid out in a straight manner so that
existing trees in the area could be retained.
Frank Frattalone, 3205 Centerville Road, reported that he owns property
in the industrial park across the freeway and noted that the run-off
from this area ends up on the other side of the freeway. Frattalone
outlined the flooding problems that occurred in that area in the past,
and stated that he was in favor of the ponding as proposed and additional
ponding when the southern area develops to alleviate the amount of
run-off on the other side of the freeway.
There was no one else present wishing to comment on Imp.No. 87-8.
P1r. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 87-6-274 - CLOSING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON IP1PROVEMENT N0. 87-8, THE IMPROVEMENT
OF SECTION 5 INDUSTRIAL AREA AND CENTERVILLE
ROAD BY WATERP1AIN, SANITARY SE4JER, STORP4 SEWER
AND PONDING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Collova.
Ayes (5) Blesener, Collova, Scalze, LaValle, Fahey.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book Plo. 17, Page 297.
Page -6-
