MINUTES
City Council
August 12, 1987
Firemen's Mr. LaValle reported that the Firemen's Relief Association has
Relief requested an immediate benefit increase. The firemen were requesting
Association an increase to $1,100 per service year and the recommendation of the
& Benefit Association is $1,000 per service year. Current benefits are at $800
Rate per year while the benefit rate of surrounding cities is between
$1,200 and $1,500 per year.
Agenda
Addition LaValle also reported that the Association is requesting a$3,000
increase in the City's contribution to the Relief Association.
Blesener pointed out that the City's contribution to the Association has
not increasedinthe last two years. Blesener reported that the City's
contribution is currently $13,500 per year and it is recommended it
be increased to $16,500 per year. State aid contribution for 1987 is
$19,000 and will probably be $20,00 for 1988.
Blesener pointed out that the recommendation of the Association is a
compromise from what the Fire Department had requested.
Scalze asked what the Fire Department plans to do with revenues from
bingo.
Blesener pointed out that there have been no profits as yet, but it
is the feeling of the Fire Chief that the money should be used initially
for repairs to the fire hall as well as some new equipment which is
needed.
Blesener also reported that the City Auditor reported that the City
could increase the firemen's benefit to $950 per service year and
possibly $1,100 per service year. However, to ensure there is no
liability on the part of the City, a figure of $1,000 per service
year was recommended.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 87-8-371 - INCREASING IMMEDIATELY
THE FIREMEN S BENEFIT RATE TO $1,000 PER YEAR OF
SERVICE AS WELL AS INCREASING THE CITY'S
CONTRIBUTION BY $3,000 PER YEAR TO THE FIREMEN's
RELIEf ASSOCIATION AS WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE
FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION AT THEIR AUGUST
11, 1987 MEETING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Blesener.
Ayes (4) LaValle, Blesener, Scalze, Collova.
Nays (01.
Mr. Fahey abstained from discussion as well as voting on the resolution.
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 18, Page 397.
Page -18-
