MINUTES
City Council
Sept. 23, 1987
Park Comm
Vacancy
Agenda
Item No. 16A
Scalze reported that the City recently advertised a vacancy on the
Park Commission. Two applications were received, however, one
application was dated September 15 and the other September 17.
The City set a September 16 deadline for acceptance of applications.
Scalze stated that while both applicants were highly qualified for
the position, she felt the application dated September 17 should not
be considered as it was received after the deadline.
Fahey thought that this had happened in the past, and the Council
considered all the applications. Fahey felt that the Council should
take a ballot on both applications.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 87-9-459 - AGREEING TO
CONSIDER BOTH APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED FOR
THE VACANCY ON THE PARK COMMISSION, AND
DECLARING THAT THE COUNCIL WILL ACT ON THESE
APPLICATIONS BY BALLOT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Blesener.
Ayes (3) Fahey, Blesener, LaValle.
Nays (2) Scalze, Collova.
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. lB, Page 485.
The applications received were from Gordie Swanson and Joe Fasciana.
Scalze stated that while both applicants are qualified for the
position, her vote would reflect the applicant who submitted his
application within the deadline.
It was pointed out that the vacancy was for the remainder of 1987
as well as a three-year period beginning January 1, 1988 and ending
December 31, 1990.
Council took a ballot and the vote is as follows:
Scalze voted for Swanson;
Collova voted for Swanson;
Blesener voted for Fasciana;
LaValle voted for Fasciana;
Fahey voted for fasciana.
Therefore, Joe Fasciana was appointed to the Park Commission for a
term through December 31, 1990.
Page -22-
