MINUTES
City Council
Sept. 23, 1987
Maplewood Fahey questioned why the City would accept this parcel of land and
Annexation not require that the property immediately adjacent to Arcade Street
(Cont.) be annexed as well. Fahey also felt the primary reason for the
annexation was to get water from Little Canada without having to pay
the non-resident connection charge.
Scalze pointed out that the City has held public hearings on bringing
watermain to the area, and there are property owners in Little Canada
in this area who do not want water.
The City Clerk suggested that watermain could be brought from LaBore
Road to serve this parcel.
Scalze pointed out that the City could not assess Mrs. Coleman for
watermain if it were brought down Arcade, as she lives in Maplewood.
Blesener pointed out that Mr. Anderson has previously made the same
proposal for annexation, and the City instructed Anderson to convince
Plaplewood to approve the annexation, and Little Canada would then
accept the property.
Fahey pointed out that Little Canada is not interested in giving up
any property to Maplewood in exchange for annexing this property to
Little Canada. Fahey also felt that the City should also try to
obtain Lots 12 through 16 on Arcade Street.
Polski pointed out that their request is for the 7 1/2 acres that
Mr. Nelson is purchasing, however, they would contact their neighbors
to see if they are interested in joining in with the annexation.
Fahey pointed out that the Coleman property would be beneficial for
the City to annex, and if Maplewood would not give Lots 12 through
16 to Little Canada, that would be fine.
Scalze stated that she does not buy the reason of public safety for
annexation, and felt that Nelson has other reasons for wanting to
annex to Little Canada.
Fahey stated that if the City can add to its tax base, he was in
favor of the proposal.
Polski reported that he would contact the City of h1aplewood and
report their feelings to the Council.
L~ concensus of the ma iori.ty, of t.he Counci.l
n correction Fahey pointed out that it was the-etme€nsus of the Council that the
Res.-87-10-482 City would be interested in annexing this property to Little Canada,
Bloomquist Mr. Pat Kelly, attorney representing Mr, and Mrs. Ganzel, owners
Addition of Lot 13, Block 2, aloomquist Lakeside Addition, appeared before
Easement the Council and reviewed his letter dated September 15, 1987
Matter stating that the City has a storm sewer pipe on the Ganzel property
Agenda
Addition Page -5-
