MI~IUTES <br />City Council <br />Sept. 30, 1987 <br />Blesener• suggested an hour~ly wage of $12.15 per~ hour• for• Dr•ake and <br />Steele. <br />Council agr•eed. <br />Next, f~lesener~ suggested that Roger~ Glanzer's position was somewher•e <br />between Public tdor~ks Super~intendent and Public ~n~or~ks Dir•ector~. <br />Ther~efore, Blesener• suggested a 4% base incr•ease plus a 3% pr•omotional <br />incr•ease br•inging Glanzer's salar•y to $35,340 annually. <br />Council agr~eed. <br />Blesener reported that the Public Works Superintendent is budgetinry <br />for• another~ full-time maintenance wor•ker (2) for• 1988. Blesener• <br />r•epor•ted that initially he thought a new employee should be added, <br />someone between the maintenance worker• (4) and the super•intendent. <br />However•, Gl anzer~ feel s that a mai ntenance wor•ker• ( 21 i s what i s <br />needed. <br />Fahey asked why another• employee is needed. <br />Blesener• pointed out that Public Wor•ks cur•r•ently has a tempor•ar•y par•t- <br />time employee at full-time hours. Blesener noted the additional <br />houses and r•oads that have been added to the City as well as the <br />City's sewer cleaning program and better street patching. <br />Fahey suggested the City continue with the tempor•ar•y full-time per•son. <br />Glanzer• replied that he felt the depar~tment should have a per•manent <br />employee who knows the job and did not feel the staff should have <br />to spend time r•etr•aining and super•vising tempor•ar•y full-time <br />employees. <br />Fahey noted that he under•stands that when doing sewer~ wor•k two people <br />are required. <br />Gl anzer• r•epor~ted that new 1 egi sl ati on may be enacted r•equi r•i ng thr•ee <br />employees on the job when sewer~ wor~k is being done. <br />Glanzer~ r•eported that Public Wor•ks employs four• part-time people <br />dur~ing the summer• to tr•y to get mowing and str~eet maintenance done, <br />however•, the depar~tment is not getting sewer• maintenance done. <br />Another• full-time per•son would allow the City to wor•k both a str•eet <br />cr•ew and sewer• cr•ew. <br />Fahey asked how many employees Vadnais Heights had. <br />Glanzer~ replied that they have five full-time employees and that <br />Vadnais Heights contr~acts out their• str~eet maintenance. <br />Fahey suggested that perhaps the City should be contr•acting out some <br />of this wor•k. <br />Page -6- <br />
