f^,INUTES <br />City Council <br />Sept. 30, 1987 <br />Council next began review of the ,eneral Fund Fxpenditures Budget, <br />fir•st r•eviewing the Str•eets Budget. The Public I~lor•ks Superintendent <br />r•equested that the Maintenance P9ater•ials and Supplies por•tion of the <br />budget be incr~eased by $2,000 to $12,000, r•aising the total Str•eets <br />budget to $148,700 fr•om $143,973 budgeted in 1987. <br />Council approved the Streets Budget as amended. <br />Next r•eviewed was the Stor•m Sewer• Budget in the amount of $4,000. <br />1987 Storm Sewer budget was $5,000. Council approved this portion <br />of the budget. <br />Council appr•oved the Str•eet Lighting budget of $37,000 for• 1988. <br />1987 budget was $37,000. The Public biorks Superintendent reported <br />that he over~-budgeted in 1987. <br />Council reviewed the Sanitation Budget in the amount of $8,050 for 19A8 <br />versus a R6,600 budget in 1987. <br />The Public !~lorks Superintendent reported that the increase is due to <br />incr~eases in dumpster• costs. Public Works Super•intendent r~epor•ted <br />that ther•e ar•e only a few people fr~om the City using the dumpster•, <br />and suggested the Council consider eliminating this ser•vice. Public <br />4dor•ks Super~intendent noted that ther•e ar•e other• dump sites in the <br />County which can be utilized by citizens of Little Canada. <br />n co.rrection Scalze commented that the City is subsidizing people who do not want <br />Res. 87-10-483 ~~~' ~~'~' to pay f.or weekl.y cur_bsi.de ser.vir.es. <br />Public Wor•ks Super•intendent pointed out that the Sanitation ser•vice <br />takes in about half of the money in the form of fees that it actually <br />costs the City. <br />Council discussed the need for~ the dumpster• ser~vice and it was the <br />concensus of the Council to continue the ser•vice for• another~ year•. <br />Council discussed the Recycling por~tion of the budget which is <br />budgeted at $16,100 for• 1988 and is a fir•st-time budget item. <br />Public Wor~ks Super~intendent r•epor~ted that most of the cost of r~ecycling <br />will be cover•ed by gr~ants. The Super•intendent also suggested that the <br />Council pr•ovide a composting site in the City and noted the City pr~oper•ty <br />next to the Fr•attalone pr•oper•ty on South Owasso could be used. <br />Blesener• suggested that the Super•intendent do some r•esear•ch and <br />determine if grants can be used for~ setting up a compost site in <br />the City. <br />Council appr•oved the Recycling por•tion of the budget. <br />Page -8- <br />
